Who are we?

Welcome dedicated and aspiring home brewers! I’m glad to see you found your way to the High-Tech Brewer website. My name is James Azotea and I am the founder of High-Tech Brewer brewing equipment. I started this business 6 years ago because I want to help homebrewers make a higher quantity of quality beer with less effort. Here is how I did it and how I can help you do it.

I have been a dedicated home brewer for over 34 years. Like most of you, I started brewing extract beers on my stove to learn the brewing process. I was thirsty for beer knowledge so I joined a local beer club, learned how to judge beer to BJCP Style Guidelines, and became a Certified BJCP judge. Judging classic beer styles gave me the tools to evaluate and improve my home brewed beers. I got more excited about my brewing hobby as my brewing knowledge increased and the quality of my beer improved. I tried making 10 gallon batches of beer on the stove but I quickly realized there were some process problems that could not be solved with a stove top setup. It was obvious to me that I needed to find a stove alternative to brew higher volumes of beer. I decided to change to an all grain brewing process so I could make larger amounts of high quality beer and reduce my brewing ingredient cost. I am an electrical engineer with a strong background in power electronics and power packaging. I thought it might be time to stop brewing on the stove and develop a heating system to quickly heat and support the weight of 30 gallons of beer.

I developed a novel product called a “Brew Plate”. It uses 6.6KW of power to quietly heat 30 gallons of water in about 45 minutes using a flat bottom boiling pot. The Brew Plate reduces the overall burner heat reaching the pot, while also spreading the heat evenly across the area of the plate to get rid of hot spots that can cause wort caramelization or scotching the pot. The uninform heat spreading on the plate generates a beautiful rolling boil to enhance hot break and increase hop utilization. The low thermal resistance brew plate design effectively minimizes temperature drops between the heat source and the brew pot. The diffuser plate is integrated into a sturdy aluminum frame to reliably support over 300 lbs. The controller is mounted to the frame and can be built to order with thermal-mechanical Infinite switches or analog/digitally controlled semiconductor devices. The controller enclosure  comes with an integrated 220 VRMS @ 50A rated power connector and a switched GFCI 120 VRMS @ 15A receptacle for safely moving burning hot wort with a pump. The power cord with a 50A rated power connector is purchased separately. Our products are proudly manufactured in the USA!
